New business, employment and benefit data available
We have just added new data showing how many people are employed in different types of business in the County. You can see some quite large differences between the District areas with Taunton Deane having a much higher percentage of public sector employees while West Somerset has a particularly high rate of people employed in Agriculture, forestry & fishing / Mining, quarrying and Utilities.

The figures are estimates based on surveys of employers and can be found int the Economy & Jobs section.

Also in this section we have some updated figures for the number of claimants of Housing Benefits and Council Tax Benefit. Monthly rates for both of these now go up to December 2011. Both have risen by around 6000 claimants in 3 years.

Information about the number of houses in different Council Tax Bands has also been updated to include 2011 data. This can be found in the Housing section.

Somerset household segmentation data goes live
We have now published some information on Somerset household segmentation for Electoral Divisions in the People & Neighbourhoods section of the web site.

This is part of a project recently carried out to categorise the households of Somerset in to groups based on similar characteristics. This has resulted in 11 broad groups, labelled A to K, each representing a different set of traits.

More information on the project and descriptions of the different groups can be found on the Customer Insight & Segementation page of the SINE web site.

    New Electoral Division Profiles
We have just launched our new Electoral Division profiles on INFORM Somerset. These update the profiles on the SINe web site produced in 2009.

Electoral Divisions are the areas represented by individual County Councillors and we have pulled together a range of information from different sources to give a picture of the area overall.
